Please note: The levels of Pre-Ballet through Ballet V are all two-year programs.  On occasion, students may deviate from the "norm," requiring more (or less) time in a particular level. Advancement to the next level is determined by the director's recommendation. Please see FAQ. 


Pre-Ballet A

Age-5yrs
This beginner-level class introduces your child to ballet by balancing creative play with beginning ballet positions and simple movements. This is a fully independent class without parent participation. Children must be 5 yrs. old by November 1st.

Pre-Ballet B

Ages 5 yrs- 5½ approx.
This beginner level class introduces your child to ballet by balancing creative play with beginning ballet positions and simple movements. Classical positions are introduced and musical rhythms are explored.  A stronger emphasis is placed on following spoken and musical direction.

Ballet I-A: Beginner Ballet

Ages 6 - 7
Building on the foundations established in the Pre-Ballet levels, Ballet I advances to beginning classical ballet steps and terminology which is achievable with now increased coordination skills.

Ballet I-B:  Beginner Ballet-2nd yr.

Ages 6- 7 with previous ballet experience
Students progress to Ballet I-B when their coordination, ability to focus and follow direction advances to a level in which they are able to enjoy a full hour class,  where difficulty of patterning increases and more intricate beginner steps are introduced and repeated.

Ballet II: Fundamentals I

AGES 7 - 8 depending on previous dance experience
In Ballet II, students progress in both classical vocabulary of movement, and also in the focused discipline that will prepare them for the increased demands of Ballet III.   Students are required to attend two days per week at this level.

Ballet III: Fundamentals 2

AGES 9 - 10 depending on previous dance experience
In Ballet III, students begin to take their training to a more serious level.  A deeper understanding and execution of detailed ballet steps and concepts becomes the focus, with a large emphasis on increasing ballet vocabulary.  Development of strength, grace, and flexibility in preparation for pre-pointe work.

Ballet IV: Intermediate Ballet

Ages 10 - 12  depending on experience (requires at least 3-5 yrs previous training)
Ballet IV signifies a jump to a higher level of training in both development of coordination and execution of form. In Ballet IV we move from the “fundamental” levels of ballet into the challenge of more intricate steps and patterns, requiring higher degrees of flexibility, coordination, strength, musicality and performance. Additionally, an emphasis is placed on exercises designed to develop the strength and coordination required for future pointe work, which for many students begins during their 1- 3 years in this level. By their second year of Ballet IV, a student benefits from a strong commitment to classes.  Attendance is required 3 days per week.

Ballet V:  Advanced Intermediate

Ages 12 - 14 depending on experience - requires at least 3-5 yrs previous training
Ballet V students have completed at least two years of Ballet IV.  Often pointe work will begin at this level. Dancers are preparing for Advanced Ballet technique. Attendance to all three classes per week is required.

Advanced Ballet

Ages 14 - 18+ Your student’s teachers and director establish when a student is ready for Advanced Ballet. Pointe Work and repertoire classes are required.
This class is for students with strong knowledge, understanding and the ability to execute correct technique and placement. Pointe Work and Repertory Classes are included in a 4-day per week schedule, and students are committed to deepening their understanding of ballet technique consistently and responsibly.  While not the goal of every advanced student, the class is designed to prepare a student for a professional career in classical ballet.
